Common-sense Answers to Foundational Questions About Career Development and Employment
Kent R.
After over a decade consulting with individuals and organizations, we’ve fielded a lot of questions about the world of work. We’re essentially in the question answering business. And we love it.
We strive to be on the forefront of our field, so we always welcome new, complicated questions about the career development and employment landscape. But you know what? More often than not, we are asked the same foundational questions over and over. And we welcome those too.
Just because something is foundational, does not mean it’s commonly understood. In fact, the most foundational questions – like the ones we’ll be covering in this quarter of the Stop Hating Mondays podcast – tend to be the hardest to get straight-forward answers to. Thanks to SEO and the attention economy, the internet is rife with terrible, convoluted, and contradictory answers to basic questions. When we’re talking about employment and career development – topics that don’t lend themselves to simple, binary right/wrong advice and/or have been shrouded in secrecy for decades – well, it’s hard to know what advice to trust.
That’s why we started The Change Laboratory blog back in 2009 and, earlier this year, the Stop Hating Mondays Podcast. We want it to be easier to find common-sense, trustworthy answers to some of the most foundational questions there are about career development and employment. And that’s why we are dedicating this quarter to some of the questions we get the most – the questions that people need answers to the most but struggle to find reliable advice on.
In our first episode of the quarter, which you can find a link to below, we’re providing tips for how to interview better. We’re talking about specific ways to overcome the things that people fear most about interviews and providing advice on how to feel more prepared and in control when going into an interview.
As we move through the quarter, we’ll be tackling other foundational career development topics, from how to get a promotion to how to switch careers.
Our sincere hope is that these podcast episodes leave you with tips and answers that just make sense – that you can trust to help you be more successful as you search for work, land a job, and move through your career.
