2021 is Looking Good
Kent R.
With 2020 near a close, I was doing some reflecting and looking back.
A year ago, I wrote this on the blog.
The world is a strange place. With so much uncertainty and fear, it's important to stop for a minute to consider what really matters.
And then just a couple months later, we were hit with one of the most – probably the most – troubling years anyone has had to deal with in modern history. We all got a pandemic-sized lesson in “what really matters” whether we wanted it or not.
I can’t think of a person I know whose life hasn’t been significantly shifted by the events of 2020. If you keep up with the blog, you know that, here at The Change Laboratory, that’s no exception. For starters, we changed our name. Along with that, we’re leaning deeper into service offerings that help our clients – both individuals and organizations – meet the requirements of a transformed (and rapidly transforming) employment landscape.
Having said that, I am going to throw it back to exactly where I was a year ago today, because my thoughts carry even more truth now, after a tumultuous 2020.
That is to say that, while we wish you every professional success (and will happily help you get there!)…
Your job/career should never define you.
The best jobs and careers are an extension of your strengths and values with (hopefully) a heavy dose of passion in the mix. Because that's the case – that fulfilling work is a natural extension of the best of you – your life will never be defined by your work. If you do the heavy lifting that's required to figure out who you are and what you should be doing with your life, work/life balance will rarely, if ever, be out of sync.
Stay tuned right here at The Change Laboratory for some exciting tools that we’re launching in 2021. We’re going to make Figuring Out You even easier in 2021.
As we head into a celebratory time of the year, during which most of us will be celebrating quite differently, I want to, as I did last year, urge you to prepare to bring the best of you to 2021.
What changes do you want to make?
What will bring you more career satisfaction?
What necessary "next move" have you been delaying?
Let 2021 be the year. Your year. There’s no time to waste.
Work/life balance starts with a happy, fulfilled you. That's our wish for you this holiday season and in the year ahead; a happy and fulfilled you.
We also realize that – in a world full of inequality – the pursuit of “fulfillment” is a luxury that takes time and oftentimes resources that not all people have. We regularly donate a portion of our earnings to support a more just world and level the playing field. In 2020, we’ve been thrilled to support organizations that promote human rights and eliminate systemic barriers to success for people of color, LGBTQIA+ communities, and immigrants, to name a few.
If you are able, we ask you to join us in helping to expand the circle of opportunity for the less fortunate in our splintered world.
As always, we are boundlessly grateful for the opportunity to work with you. Thank you for supporting our (micro!) small business and for entrusting us with your career / your workgroup / your organization.
