TANDEM'S TIPS: SHOULD YOU POST A PROFILE ONLINE
Kent R.
Q: I was just reading about your current promotion and see that one of the "bonus" options is getting a version of my resume for posting on websites such as LinkedIn. Do you think it's important for people to have a profile on LinkedIn when seeking work? A: If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that questions like this hit my inbox with some consistency. Of course, there is no set list of things that a job-seeker should do. However, the employment landscape is changing, so you have to engage in activities that go beyond simply submitting your resume randomly and hoping for the best. Setting up a LinkedIn profile, for example, is a good start.
I get a lot of interest in LinkedIn profiles, so I've made that an option in this month's promotion. I also get many requests for help with targeting resumes/letters to specific positions, so that service also appears in the current promo.
Candidates are quickly learning how important it is to engage in activities that go beyond old-school job search tactics. That's great news because the employment landscape is shifting dramatically, and this sluggish economy is ensuring that the "rules" for getting a job will be forever changed.
