TANDEM'S RESUME TIPS: WHEN TO SUBMIT A RESUME

Q: When is the best time to submit a resume for an open position? A: In the current economy, companies are trying to make smarter hiring decisions. Therefore, you may have noticed that the hiring window (for accepting resumes) is oftentimes longer than it would have been a few years back.
Many people think that it's smart to wait until the end of the window to submit a resume (citing the "recency" theory). Of course there is no magic answer, but I tend to direct people to submit as early as possible. In my experience, an open requisition will get a lot more attention right out of the gate. HR - along with the hiring manager - will want to ensure that the requisition is getting traction and attracting the right kinds of candidates. Recruiters will often use early resumes, that are a good match, to demonstrate to the hiring manager how great the pool of candidates is projected to be.
