TANDEM EMPOWERS - AN UPDATE
Kent R.
Tandem believes in giving back. That's what the arm, Tandem Empowers, is all about. It's been a while since I've provided an update. In this tough economic climate, with so many people struggling to make ends meet and/or find work, it's sometimes difficult - understandably - to think beyond what's going on in our own lives. Many frustrated job seekers are in survival mode. In the past year, in particular, I've enjoyed donating services to disadvantaged people in their quests for meaningful work, and I even partnered with a "pink slip" group to provide advice and guidance.
The mission of Tandem Empowers goes even deeper - it's about helping the world's most vulnerable people. Last year, I announced Tandem's Charity of Choice, MercyCorps (check them out if you're in the market for a new charity!). Also, I was happy to help out tsunami victims in Samoa and Haiti's citizens, struggling to overcome the devastating impact of the earthquake at the beginning of the year.
Last month I had an awesome experience, when I was able to spend time in Washington DC advocating on behalf of individuals who are trying to find their way out of poverty. These people, who are often treated as though they are invisible, need all of the support that they can get. Consider these statistics:
- About 1 out of every 5 American children lives in poverty.
- About 1 out of every 6 people around the world is chronically hungry.
At Tandem, work and giving back go hand-in-hand. Thanks, again, to all of you for your business. It enables me to do the work I love and - at the same time - work to expand the circle of opportunity.
