Resumes Vs. Applications
Kent R.
Q. I know it is a good idea to tailor a resume toward each position. But is it a problem that the applications I fill out will include positions that are not on my resume? A. Great question. Potential employers understand that your resume is your personal marketing document and that it will be highlighting those aspects of your career that align with the opportunity before you.
Most readers will not be expecting your resume to be comprehensive and, in fact, will appreciate a concise, focused document. That means that they will not be surprised to learn that you have omitted irrelevant / less relevant work history or aspects of your background that are of less value. Of course, you never want to be dishonest.
Targeting your resume is one of the most effective things you can do, so keep up the good work.
