Position or Company First on a Resume?

Kent R.

A blog post answering the question, "should I list my company name or my title first on my resume?"

Q. Should I list my position or the company I work for first on my resume?

A. When creating your resume, you should list your position first and your company second.

Like so many resume “guidelines,” that is not set in stone. However, it's the approach I recommend. While where you worked is important, it doesn’t say as much about your qualifications as your role in that company does.

NEW! Learn about your personality and use that knowledge to unlock a future you’re excited about.

Tell potential employers first what you do / did, then you can tell them who you do / did it for. You're marketing yourself, not your previous employers.
